On Day 1 of #SMWLagos, I attended three panels. The events were informative, accurate, and at times, even entertaining. On Victoria Island, the vibe is real laid back, and the atmosphere is comfortable. Everyone is on the move and about their business -- no mindless loitering here.
The next time I visit, I will have to bring my family. With all of the negativity I have heard about Nigeria, I have to say that I am yet to experience it. All I see is a focused and proud nation who are hard working and focused. I had a powerful conversation with a young man at the @volkswagen hub, and we discussed the need for African people everywhere to stop with the labeling, stereotypes, and divisiveness.
In fact, for 2014, lets focus on unity and problem solving rather than bickering and disunity.
At this point in my life, I have been blessed to go to Senegal, Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa, and Tanzania professionally, and no matter where I've gone, all I have witnessed is fiercely proud, well -educated people who have self-respect, energy, and are optimistic about their lives, people, and respective countries.
And what does this add up to?
A new era of humanity, a new chapter of promise, and a new legacy for Africa.
